Windsor Spitfires Defeat Saginaw Spirit
Mikhail Sergachev scored two goals and added an assist as the Windsor Spitfires defeated the Saginaw Spirit 5-1 at the WFCU Centre Sunday afternoon.
Jalen Chatfield, Aaron Luchuk and Cristiano DiGiacinto had the other goals for the Spitfires (27-8-5-1) while Michael DiPietro made 26 saves to pick up the win in goal.
Centre Adam Laishram notched his first point as a Spitfire by assisting on DiGiacinto’s third period marker. Laishram was acquired from the Hamilton Bulldogs in a deal at the Ontario Hockey League trade deadline last Tuesday.
Leamington native Hayden Hodgson scored the lone goal for the Spirit (15-2-5-2) while Brad Bonello was busy all game long making 40 saves on the the afternoon.
The victory kept the Spitfires four points behind the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the battle for first place atop the OHL’s West Division standings. Windsor continues to have two games in hand over the Sault as well.
The Spitfires schedule has them return to action on Tuesday night when they take on the Rangers in Kitchener on Tuesday night for a rare week day road game at the venerable Kitchener Memorial Auditorium.
