Windsor Spitfires edge Flint Firebirds in Overtime

Aaron Luchuk scored the overtime winner as the Windsor Spitfires came from behind to stun the Flint Firebirds 4-3 at the WFCU Centre Sunday afternoon.

Trailing 3-0 after 40 minutes of play, Juluis Nattinen scored twice and Sean Day added a single marker as the Spitfires (40-17-5-3) rallied to tie the game and set the stage for Luchuk’s heroics.

Day, who signed an entry-level contract with the New York Rangers last week, also had two assists for a three-point game.

Nicholas Cammano paced the Firebirds (32-25-3-5) offensively with a pair of goals while Everett Clark had the other goal for the visitors. Mathieu Henderson chipped i with a pair of assists for Flint as well.

Michael DiPietro made 19 saves to pick up the win in net for Windsor while Garrett Forrest made 32 stops at the other end.

The Windsor Spitfires schedule has them return to action on the road Wednesday night when they take on the Sarnia Sting for the second time in less than a week at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
