Windsor Spitfires Hammer Sudbury Wolves

Gabe Vilardi scored three goals and added two assists as the Windsor Spitfires hammered the Sudbury Wolves 7-1 at the WFCU Centre Sunday afternoon.

Jeremy Bracco, Logan Brown, Juluis Nattinen and Mikhail Sergachev added single goals for the Spitfires (39-15-5-3) who with the win swept both games with the Wolves this season.

Nattinen’s tenth goal of the season snapped a 19-game goal-scoring drought. The second round draft choice of the Anaheim Ducks in 2015 also had an assist as he also scored his first two points in 10 games.

Bracco, himself a second round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2015, also had three assists in the game while Brown and Aaron Luchuk chipped in with a pair of assists apiece.

Mario Culina, making his second straight straight in goal for the Spitfires as starter Michael DiPietro remained out of the lineup with the flu, made 22 saves to pick up the win in goal.

Ryan Valentini had the lone goal for the Wolves (23-31-7-0) and Jake McGrath made 28 saves while taking the loss in goal for the visitors.

The contest also marked the return of former long-time Spitfires team captain Patrick Sanvido, who was traded to the Wolves earlier this season. Sanvido took part in a ceremonial face-off before the start of the game.

The Windsor Spitfires schedule return to action Thursday night when they host the Erie Otters when they host at the WFCU Centre Thursday night.
