Windsor Spitfires Hammer Wolves

Cole Purboo and Luke Boka both scored twice as the Windsor Spitfires hammered the Sudbury Wolves 6-0 Saturday night at the Sudbury Community Arena Saturday night.

The victory extended the Spitfires’ winning streak to four games – all of them on the road.

Michael DiPietro made 22 saves to record his second consecutive shutout. The goose egg was also DiPietro’s third of the season.

Cristiano DiGiacinto and Aaron Luchuk had the other goals for the Spitfires (20-5-4-0) who took a 1-0 lead into the third period before exploding for five goals in the final frame. DiGiacinto and Luchuk both added three assists to record four points apiece on the night.

Special teams played a large role in determining the outcome of the game as the Spitfires’ league-leading power-play cashed in on two of four opportunities while the team’s league-leading penalty killing unit did not allow any goals while playing shotrhanded five times.

Jake McGrath made 25 saves while taking the loss in net for the Wolves (13-16-2-0)

The Windsor Spitfires return to action Sunday afternoon for a game against the Battalion in North Bay.
