Spitfires 4 Generals 2
by Dave Ducharme
Gabriel Vilardi and Christian Fischer each had three points, leading the Spitfires to a 4-2 win over the Generals at the GM Centre Sunday.
Michael DiPietro made 32 saves in goal for Windsor (25-11-5-0), which remained seven points up on the Sarnia Sting for first place in the West Division.
Hayden McCool’s ninth of the season, at 5:42 of the third period, turned out to be the winner. Mikhail Sergachev (12), Fischer (19) and Vilardi (12) had the other goals for the visitors, who won for the fifth time in six games.
After a scoreless first period, Kenny Huether (16) gave Oshawa (16-20-3-2) a 1-0 lead, taking a nice feed from Anthony Cirelli on a 2-on-1 just past the midway point of the second period.
Jalen Smereck notched his third of the season in the game’s final minute, rounding out the scoring.
Justin Nichols made 21 saves in a losing cause in his Generals debut, after being acquired from the Guelph Storm earlier in the week.
The clubs meet again Thursday night at the WFCU Centre. Game time is 7:05.
