Women Saints Suffer OCAA Loss to Top Ranked Humber

The St. Clair College women’s soccer team dropped a tough match to the top ranked Humber Hawks in their OCAA Quarterfinal Match on Friday morning in Sudbury. The Saints ended up losing 1-0 in an evenly played match.

Humber scored midway through the second half off a nice free kick into the top corner. The Saints had a couple great chances in the first half to go up 1-0 in the but could not get one past the Humber keeper.  St. Clair had a great chance to tie the score on a free kick in the last few minutes but a great shot Cassie Nicholas (Windsor)was turned away nicely by the Humber goalie.

A young St. Clair team had to face some adversity in this match as their starting keeper, Tory Brown (Windsor), was ruled out with a concussion last minute and midfielder Andie Albert (Melbourne) had to step in and play goal. Albert had a great game turning aside several tough shots. Sweeper Charesse Thomas-Tate (Brampton) had a solid match as well keeping the Hawk strikers at bay and was named the Saints Player of the Game.

Heading into the Championship Humber was ranked 2nd in Ontario and 6th in Canada. The Hawks ended the regular season with a record of 10-0 scoring 41 goals and allowing 3.

St. Clair will now play on Friday morning in the Consolation semi final at 9 am. The game will be live streamed.

On Wednesday evening prior to the Championship two St. Clair athletes were honoured at the OCAA Championship Banquet.
