2017 IIHF World Championship Canada vs Norway

PARIS, France – Canada scored twice in each of the first and second periods on its way to a 5-0 win over Norway Monday. With the win, Canada clinches top spot in Group B and improves to 5-0-0-1 in the tournament.

  • Colton Parayko (St. Albert, Alta./St. Louis, NHL) scored a pair of powerplay goals for the red-and-white, while Mark Scheifele (Kitchener, Ont./Winnipeg, NHL) andRyan O’Reilly (Varna, Ont./Buffalo, NHL) netted a goal and an assist each. Brayden Schenn (Saskatoon, Sask./Philadelphia, NHL) rounded out the scoring for Team Canada.
  • Nathan MacKinnon (Cole Harbour, N.S./Colorado, NHL) chipped in with three assists to climb to 11 points (5 goals, 6 assists) in six games.
  • Canada outshot Norway 48-10 in the game; Chad Johnson (Calgary/Calgary, NHL) picked up his third win in as many starts, making 10 saves.

Next game: Team Canada has little time to rest as they close out preliminary round action on Tuesday, May 16 at 2 p.m. ET against Finland.

 

“We played pretty well today. I think our guys were playing a little bit angry from what happened [in the overtime loss to Switzerland] so there was an extra jump in their step. We knew what was on the line for us – that we had a chance to come first in our group. Guys came out with energy, came out determined, and the result of the Swiss game was added incentive.
