Aaron Luchuk Traded to Barrie Colts

2017 Memorial Cup final hero and team captain Aaron Luchuk has been traded to the Barrie Colts.

In return the Spitfires receive a package that includes 2000-born centre Curtis Douglas and three draft picks – Sudbury’s 2nd in 2021, Barrie’s 2nd in 2022 and Barrie’s 3rd in 2024.

Luchuk, 20, played in 236 regular season games with the club over parts of five seasons, scoring 93 goals to go along with 94 assists. He leaves the Spitfires as the Ontario Hockey League’s current leader in goals (28).

“It was very hard to move one of the best character kids this franchise has ever seen. He scored one of the biggest goals in Spitfire history and is forever a champion. His contributions to the team, both on and off the ice, were significant.” – General Manager Warren Rychel

Douglas, 17, is expected to play Thursday and will wear #28 as the Spitfires host the Mississauga Steelheads.
