Antwon Lillard Named NBLC Rookie of the Year

The National Basketball League of Canada has announced that Antwon Lillard of the Island Storm has been named Rookie of the Year for the 2019-20 season.

The first year forward was a key contributor for the Storm this season and was a regular fixture in the starting lineup, starting in 18 of the 22 games he appeared in. Lillard averaged 15.5 points per game while pulling down 8.8 rebounds per contest. The 6’6″ Cleveland native finished 2nd amongst rookies in rebounds, third and fifth in the league in defensive rebounds and total rebounds respectively.

“Our Storm franchise is thrilled that Antwon has won Rookie of the Year!”, said head coach Tim Kendrick. “Antwon is a very talented player with a strong work ethic, I believe he is very deserving of this prestigious award. What impresses me most about Antwon is his desire to be coached and willingness to learn, as well as his very positive and professional attitude, which is somewhat rare for first year pros! Antwon is a great player and competitor, and equally as important, a great teammate, and has a very bright future ahead of him!”

The 6’6” Cleveland native finished 4th on the team in scoring and led the Storm in scoring in two contests this past season. The Bowling Green product joins AJ Gaines, CJ Washington and teammate Robbie Robinson as the only players in the league to average at least 15 points and 8 rebounds per game.
