Canada Faces Off Against Russia in Gold Medal Game at U18 Worlds

FRISCO, Texas – Canada’s National Men’s Under-18 Team will play for gold at the IIHF U18 World Championship for the first time since 2013 after downing Sweden 8-1 in the semifinals on Wednesday afternoon.

  • Connor Bedard (North Vancouver, B.C./Regina, WHL) recorded a hat trick.
  • Shane Wright (Burlington, Ont./Kingston, OHL) chipped in with a goal and three assists.
  • Chase Stillman (Peterborough, Ont./Sudbury, OHL), Brennan Othmann (Pickering, Ont./Flint, OHL), Francesco Pinelli (Stoney Creek, Ont./Kitchener, OHL) and Conner Roulette (Winnipeg, Man./Seattle, WHL) rounded out the scoring.
  • Benjamin Gaudreau (Corbeil, Ont./Sarnia, OHL) made 16 saves.
  • Canada outshot Sweden 56-17.

“Before the game, we told our players to expect a tough game from the Swedes. We had the mindset going into the game that things were not going to be easy, and offensive production and opportunities were not going to come easy. That was our messaging going into the third period as well, we just needed to keep doing the little things right and we knew the opportunities would come. We got that third goal early and things started to open up from there.”

Head coach Dave Barr (Toronto, Ont.) on the expectation going into the semifinal game
