LIONS HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL…
On if RB Ameer Abdullah will return this season: “We’ll see.”
On if starting 1-3 has anything to do with the change in the practice schedule: “There’s times when we were undefeated that we changed the schedule. When I was at Indy we made an adjustment. I kind of get a feel for when I think it’s time to make an adjustment, we’ll make it accordingly.”
On how Abdullah is doing in his rehab: “He’s making progress.”
On what he’s seen of RB Mike James’ ability this week in practice: “OK, he’s got a lot of work. He’s certainly benefitted from it.”
On if James has put himself in a position to be ready for Week 5 against Philadelphia: “He’s only been here a short period of time, but he’s very smart and very capable. He learns quickly, which is a big plus.”
On if Abdullah will return this season: “We’ll see. We’ll see what happens.”
On where TE Brandon Pettigrew is in his rehab process and how much he’s been missed on the field: “He’s coming along, he’s working at it. I think any time that you have a guy with as much experience as he has and those kinds of things, it’s tough to replace that. Let me tell you just a couple things, and I think oftentimes you guys may get a little tired of me, but you know I’m pretty consistent across the board. I’ve been doing the same thing with talking about injuries and things if you check back to my head coaching days, I don’t care when you check, it’s been exactly the same. The reason being is because of the fact number one, I am not qualified to talk about every single aspect of a medical situation, that’s number one. Number two, I think oftentimes what you guys need, what we need, it’s incongruent. They don’t work hand in hand. Our giving out information gives our opponents information, and people that we’re playing against, that we sometimes care not to share. Your job is to get as much as you possibly can and I understand that fully. So, I do understand that there’s a little bit of a disconnect there, but you also should understand that I’m not going to change in that regard. I know some of you get offended once in a while, but to those I certainly hope you get over it rather quickly. That’s kind of the way I’ve always done it, and continue to do so.”
On if he feels comfortable going into Sunday’s game with two running backs if RB Dwayne Washington is unable to play: “We’ll see. We’ve done it before. We’ll see.”
On how well he knows Eagles Defensive Coordinator and former Lions Head Coach Jim Schwartz: “You know, I think when you compete against someone you get a pretty good idea, you get to know them pretty well in that regard. I don’t know him personally where I spent a whole lot of time, we never worked together, but in our business you run into them quite a bit from time to time. You know, you get a pretty decent feel, but obviously he’s always done a great job.”
On the game captains against Philadelphia: “(Matthew) Stafford, (Glover) Quin, (Don) Muhlbach.”
