DETROIT LIONS vs NEW ORLEANS SAINTS POST-GAME WRAP

The following are post-game notes from the Detroit Lions’ 28-13 win against the New Orleans Saints at Ford Field on Sunday, December 4, 2016.

WITH THE WIN
The Lions improved to 8-4 on the season with the team’s 28-13 win at New Orleans and claimed the team’s seventh victory in the past eight games. This marks the best eight-game stretch in a season since 1995 when Detroit won the final seven games that year and finished with a 7-1 record over the final eight games.Detroit’s 15-point victory at New Orleans represents the Lions’ largest win on the road since winning 31-14 at Jacksonville on November 4, 2012. The win was also the Lions’ largest on the road against New Orleans since claiming a 27-10 win against the Saints on October 28, 1990.

8+ Wins in 1st 12 Games: By compiling an 8-4 record through 12 games, this marks the second time in three seasons under Head Coach Jim Caldwell that the Lions have won 8 out the team’s first 12 games of the season. He joins Buddy Parker (9 in in 1952 and 10 in 1953) as the only coaches in team history to notch 8+ wins during the season’s first 12 games at least twice in their first three years as Lions head coach. Caldwell led the Lions to an 8-4 record through 12 games in 2014.

Wins vs. Non-Divisional Opponent: By winning at New Orleans, the Lions earned victories against the Saints in three consecutive seasons to mark the first three-game win streak in consecutive seasons over a non-divisional opponent since defeating the Arizona Cardinals from 2004-06 (vs. Ari 42-24, 9/7/03; vs. Ari 26-12, 12/5/04; vs. Ari 29-21, 11/13/05). This was the first three-game win streak against a non-divisional opponent in three-straight years with at least two of those games occurring on the road since the team defeated the Atlanta Falcons from 1987-89 (at Atl 30-13, 12/27/87; vs. Atl 31-17, 9/4/88; at Atl 31-24, 12/24/89).

TEAM DEFENSE
By holding the New Orleans Saints, who entered the game averaging 30.4 points per game, to 13 points on Sunday, Detroit has now held opponents to 20 points or less in six-straight games (17 vs. Was 10/23; 20 at Hou 10/30; 16 at Min 11/6; 19 vs. Jax 11/20; 13 vs. Min 11/24; 13 at NO 12/4). This marks the first time the Lions allowed 20 points or less in six-straight games since the final six weeks of the 1991 season (Weeks 12-17).
