Detroit Red Wings Review – March 15-21, 2021

Broken Wings – Tyler Bertuzzi continues to be on IR with no timetable for return. Jonathan Bernier missed the entire week with a lower body injury.

Wing Movement – No significant moves happened this week. The Red Wings signed Seth Barton to an entry level contract starting next season.

Game Review – The Red Wings played four games this week. The final game last week proved not to be an aberration as the Wings opened the week being shut out by Nashville also; then, Detroit only managed one goal to Nashville’s seven on Thursday. Weekend games fared better with the Wings beating Columbus in both games, 3-1 on Saturday and 4-1 on Sunday. The Wings earned four out of eight possible points this week. The Wings are in last (8th) in the Central Division and 28th in the NHL with a 12-20-4 record.

Talking Hockey – Last week premonition was correct as the Red Wings struggled coming into the week as this stretch of games on back-to-back nights drags on. The combined 9-1 score against Nashville lead the coaching staff to make the team take a bag skate Friday, the results of which were a solid weekend effort. Coming off three games in four nights going into next week, there’s no let up as the team is forced to continue playing at least every night.

Player of the Week – Dylan Larkin – Larkin’s play has been hit or miss most of this season, but Larkin responded to the beating by Nashville on Thursday with a two assist performance Saturday along with 10 shots on goal over the weekend.
