The Drive, the NBA Affiliate of the Detroit Pistons has added Melvin Johnson III from the available player pool to its 2015-16 roster.
The 6-foot-6, 170-pound guard from Arkansas State (2013-2014) averaged 15.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game in his senior year. After Arkansas, Melvin Johnson was the 13th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Development League Draft and was later traded to the Delaware 87ers and ended the 2014-15 season with the Reno Bighorns.
In 37 NBA D-league games for the 2014-15 season (21 for Delaware, 16 for Reno), he averaged 9.7 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. During 2015-16 season, Johnson spent time with the Raptors 905, appearing in 30 contests averaging 9.43 points per game before being traded to the Texas Legends and later claimed by the Maine Red Claws.
Johnson joins the Grand Rapids Drive for the final 2015-16 regular season game against the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Sat., Apr. 2 and will wear jersey number 96.
