FINA Opening Ceremonies Day announced for the World Swimming Championships event coming to Windsor
Surrounded by flags in the Augustus lobby at Caesars Windsor, the 13th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) announced today plans for the FINA Opening Ceremony.
The Championships will be held December 6 – 11 at the WFCU Centre. The opening ceremony will be held Monday, December 5th in the Colosseum at Caesars Windsor.
“Traditionally, openings are held around the pool, moments before the first competition. Windsor wanted to do something different than the other host cities. We wanted to leave our mark as having hosted the most unique version of this event. “Having an Opening in the Colosseum at Caesars will set the tone for these Championships. A powerful start, to a powerful week.” – Peter Knowles, Event Director
Globally known Artistic Director, Producer, Choreographer, and Performer Melissa Williams will serve as Creative Director of the show. A local talent with opening ceremony experience in both the International Children’s Games and the ParaPanAm Games, Melissa’s high-energy and extreme creative edge has led to the assembly of a huge local cast.
40 local crew are involved in the production while a cast of approximately 40 more will dance, sing, and perform. Guests can expect the most exciting athlete recognition in the event’s history. The opening will include exquisite Canadian content, beautiful performances, and messaging honoring the event’s theme, ‘Feel the Power’.
The Opening Ceremony is the only place where athletes, coaches, officials, and dignitaries will all gather in one place at the same time. Approximately 1000 athletes from 176 countries will be in attendance.
On the eve of competition, guests will be part of the athletes’ last moments before they take to the pool at the WFCU Centre. An emotional and powerful start to the Championships.
A limited number of tickets are available for the FINA Opening Ceremonies to the public by visiting www.finawindsor2016.com. Tickets are $40. The event is open to all ages. Doors open at 6:00pm with the pre-show commencing at 6:30pm.
