CABOTO SOCCER RAISES FUNDS FOR LOCAL CANCER RESEARCH
Celebrating 70 years of youth soccer in the Windsor community, the Giovanni Caboto Soccer Club and its member teams came together throughout the month of August to raise a grand total of $25,315.15 in support of the Play For A Cure campaign. 100% of funds raised supports the Cancer Research Collaboration Fund, assisting local doctors, professors, and medical researchers in vital research initiatives. During the campaign, volunteers from Play For A Cure visited dozens of teams throughout Windsor-Essex to thank them for their support, talk to players, coaches and
parents about the Cancer Research Collaboration Fund, and provide all players with a Play For A Cure wrist band to wear during their game.
“Cancer has touched everyone in this community and, as a Club, we wanted to make our 70th Anniversary Season about more than just soccer. As a club, we are overwhelmed by the effort and commitment each player and team put forth to make this a successful event,” said Egidio Mosca. “We are truly overwhelmed and so grateful for the support shown by the nearly 700 athletes and their families,” said Play For A Cure Founder, Jeff Casey. “This has been a huge success for our organization, but most importantly, we were able to reach so many people of all ages and raise awareness for local cancer research. We also want to thank Club President Egidio Mosca for all of his support in making this campaign possible.”
Play for a Cure and the Caboto Soccer Club would like to congratulate the 2009 Boys Caboto FC Academy team for raising $4940! As the top fundraising team, they will be having a professional soccer experience at the new St. Clair College Sports Complex Sunday, October 17, 2021 with presentations at 6:30 and game start at 7:00pm.
A big congratulations also goes to the top individual fundraisers: Lucas Gonzalez ($2689), Alex Joseph ($2250) & Matteo Mosca ($1400)
Play For A Cure held its inaugural Pro-Am charity hockey tournament featuring a number of prominent NHL alumni in March of 2019, raising nearly $300,000 for local cancer research. While the 2020, and 2021 tournaments were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, plans are underway to host a 2022 edition of the event on April 7th & 8th at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts and Vollmer complex, respectively. Secured for the 2022 event include Adam Graves, Paul Coffey, Larry Murphy, Todd Warriner, Marty Turco, Michael Leighton, Al Iafrate & Mike Krushelnyski (with more to come).
