Holland did not waste any time taking a 19-8 lead after the first quarter but gave up a little ground in the second quarter and settled for a 34-28 cushion over Sainte-Foy. Holland put the clamps down in the third quarter and pulled ahead by 27 points early in the fourth quarter at 64-37. Sainte-Foy could not mount a serious comeback from the deficit and was relegated to the Bronze Medal semi-final Saturday at 12:00pm against VIU.
Holland College (Charlottetown, PEI) played the role of giant killer with a 79-64 win over #1 ranked Sainte-Foy (Sainte-Foy, QC) Friday night at the CCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship at the St. Clair College SportsPlex.
With the win Holland advances to the Gold Medal Game on Saturday night against 2nd ranked Humber College with tip time at 8:30pm. The Holland Player of the Game Award was given to Ashley Moss (New Providence, Bahamas) who filled the stat sheet with 8 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocked shots and 3 steals.
Laurie Marchand (Quebec City, QC) scored 16 points for the Sainte-Foy Player of the Game Award. Holland shot 45% from the 3-point range in the game and scored 26 points off the bench in the win.
