In a corresponding move, the Tigers have purchased the contract of catcher Bobby Wilson from Triple A Toledo. Wilson went 1×3 with a run scored, a double and two RBI in his only game with the Mud Hens this season.
On Monday the Tigers suffered a 7-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday afternoon at Comerica Park. Nick Castellanos and J.D. Martinez each hit their first home run of the season in the loss, while Victor Martinez was 1×4 with a RBI.
Justin Verlander started for the Tigers and took the loss after allowing seven runs on 10 hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 4.1 innings. The Tigers and Pirates conclude their two-game series in Detroit this afternooon. Following today’s game, the Tigers embark on an eight-game road trip that includes two games at Pittsburgh (April 13-14), three games at Houston (April 15-17) and three games at Kansas City (April 19-21).
The Tigers turned a season-high four double plays in yesterday’s game. It marked the most double plays turned in a game by the Tigers since they turned four on June 12, 2015 vs. Cleveland.
The Tigers announced today that they have transferred the injury rehab assignments of outfielder Cameron Maybin and righthanded pitcher Alex Wilson to Triple A Toledo. Maybin hit .231 (3×13) with three runs scored and two doubles in four games with Lakeland, while Wilson went 0-1 with an 8.10 ERA (3.1IP/3ER) and four strikeouts in two games, including one start with Lakeland. Maybin has been sidelined since March 25 with a left wrist fracture, while Wilson has been sidelined since March 25 with right rotator cuff capsulitis. Lefthanded pitcher Blaine Hardy continued his injury rehab assignment with Lakeland last night, starting and allowing two runs on one hit with one walk and four strikeouts in 2.0 innings. In two starts with Lakeland, Hardy has a 6.00 ERA (3.0IP/2ER) with two hits allowed, one walk and six strikeouts. Hardy has been sidelined since March 25 with left shoulder impingement.
