Jane’s Walk Festival Is This Weekend

Windsor Jane’s Walk Festival 2020 (May 1-3) is bringing the global walking tour festival online this weekend. Starting Friday, the Festival is releasing digital tours and artwork created by Windsorites to celebrate their neighbourhoods.

“The limitations of the pandemic brought out amazing creativity from those who answered the call for submissions,” explained Windsor Jane’s Walk Organizer, Sarah Morris, “We received an original jazz composition celebrating Walkerville, an oil painting celebrating Jackson Park, a colouring page celebrating Downtown, photography celebrating River West, and much more.”

Regular walking tours are replaced this weekend by Facebook Live tours of Spring Garden and Marlborough. One exciting guided video tour this year is hosted by WIFF’s Vincent Georgie of Windsor’s Theatre District.

Starting Friday at noon and continuing to Sunday, the public can access free content created by local artists and activists celebrating the places around them.

The Jane’s Walk Festival is a global weekend of free, citizen-led walking tours celebrating neighbourhoods and honouring the legacy of urbanist Jane Jacobs. Last year, there were fifteen walking tours through seven Windsor neighbourhoods, drawing more than 475 participants. For 2020, the walking tour part of the festival will be postponed to a later date.
