Justin ‘Regs84’ Reguly Wins 2020 NHL Gaming World Championship Canadian Regional Final

The 2020 NHL Gaming World Championship™ has crowned a new Canadian champion as Thunder Bay native Justin ‘Regs84’ Reguly captured the title and $10,000 USD Regional grand prize.

For the third consecutive year, Matthew ‘YungGren’ Grenier placed as runner-up and received $2,500 USD. The Canadian Final was produced remotely and streamed to gaming audiences on the NHL’s Twitch channel.

Playing his matches representing the Boston Bruins, Regs84, who placed first in PS4 qualifying, went 6-0 to capture his first NHL Gaming World Championship Regional title. He swept all three of his best-of-three matches, winning his quarterfinal series against Odieeeeee, 3-0 and 4-2, the semifinal against Desyd19, 8-3 and 6-3, and the Canadian Final against YungGren, 5-2 and 4-3. Over six games, Regs84 amassed 30 goals, 80 shots and 36 hits while only receiving 6 minutes of penalty time. His average attack time through the Regionals was 14:23.

No stranger to NHL Gaming competitions, the 19-year-old business student has won esports events hosted by the Washington Capitals (2019, 2020) and Winnipeg Jets (2019) as well as played in tournaments held by the Columbus Blue Jackets, Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs over the past couple of seasons. Reguly also was a finalist for the NHL Gaming World Championship Canadian Regional in 2018.

The U.S. Regional Final will be broadcast on Twitch on Wednesday, Aug. 19, starting with The GWC Lobby at 4:30 p.m. ET, followed by the main competition.
