Lancer Football Name Jesse Alexander Defensive Coordinator
Joe D’Amore, head coach of the Lancer Football program, has announced the hiring of Jesse Alexander as the team’s new defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.
Alexander comes to Windsor with over 10 years of combined coaching experience with the York Lions and Laurier Golden Hawks. He spent the 2017 with the Lions as their special teams’ coordinator, following a decade with the Golden Hawks where he worked mostly with the linebackers. In 2016, he captured a Yates Cup as a member of the Laurier coaching staff.
“We are extremely excited to add a young energetic coach like Jesse to our staff. He has a tremendous knowledge of the OUA and has learned under two of the top defensive coordinators over the past 10 years. Jesse will bring a toughness and physicality to our defense and we can’t wait to get started.” – Joe D’Amore, Lancer Football Head Coach
As a player, Alexander won back-to-back Yates Cups in 2004 & 2005 as a linebacker with the Golden Hawks, as well as a Vanier Cup in 2005. A two-time OUA all-star and CIS all-Canadian (2004 & 2006), he was also honoured as the OUA’s defensive player of the year in 2006. He was drafted by the Saskatchewan Roughriders with the 39th overall pick in the 2005 Canadian Football League (CFL) Draft.
“I am extremely excited to be working with such a talented up and coming young coaching staff,” said Alexander. “I look forward to getting the process started with the ultimate goal of bringing a Vanier Cup to the University of Windsor.”
In addition to his coaching experience with the Lions and Golden Hawks, Alexander has spent time in the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL), most recently as the defensive coordinator for the Cambridge Lions for three seasons from 2013-2015.
