DETROIT LIONS FOOTBALL CAMP & ACADEMY SUMMER 2016

The Detroit Lions have announced that their 2016 Detroit Lions Football Camp & Academy Tour, powered by Big Boy, is currently on sale. The 20-plus city tour of Michigan includes an early bird special through the end of March featuring a $10 discount off 4-day camps and $5 off 2-day camps.

Detroit Lions current or alumni player appearances are expected at several camp dates.

This summer will mark the 13th year of the camps teaching the fundamentals and benefits of the game, while also emphasizing six educational components of USA Football’s Heads Up Football program: Heads Up Blocking, Heads Up Tackling, proper equipment fitting, concussion recognition and response, heat preparedness and hydration, and sudden cardiac arrest. Heads Up Football aims to ‘take the head out of the game,’ keeping players safer.

“The goal is to provide an overall quality camp experience through a unique, educational and energetic atmosphere that will fuel one’s ‘football fire,’” said Chris Fritzsching, director of the Detroit Lions Football Education Division. “Doing so will allow the individual to enjoy and appreciate the game even more, whether they are participating as a player or watching as a fan.”

The Lions are a leader among NFL clubs in youth football education and safety. Fritzsching is a member of the inaugural class of Master Trainers for the Heads Up Football program. The Lions were the first NFL team to have a Master Trainer leading its youth football education program.

Detroit Lions Football Camps and Academies are open to boys and girls, ages 4-18, are non-contact and fundamental, and designed to improve beginning, intermediate or advanced skill levels. Camps and mini-camps provide fundamental instruction on all positions for both sides of the football. Academies focus on specific positions and allow for more detailed instruction and player development.

Participants are grouped based on age and skill level. Each camp is limited to the first 70 participants to register and is conducted by Fritzsching and the Detroit Lions Football Camp coaching staff, who are professional educators from the collegiate and high school ranks.
