The St. Clair College Department of Athletics and women’s volleyball program have signed 5’4” setter Madison Trotter, to a Letter of Intent for the 2016-17 season.
Madison Trotter a native of Windsor, Ontario is currently finishing up her high school diploma at St. Thomas of Villanova. Madison started playing volleyball at the age of 5 and has spent several years playing for the OVA South County Bandits. She has also been named a WECSSAA All-Star four times.
Trotter has been nominated for the female volleyball player of the year twice at the WESPY awards including this upcoming ceremony on March 28. Madison was a member of the Windsor team for the International Children’s Games and also made the OVA Region 3 16U team (South Western Ontario).
Madison has been accepted to the Pre-Health Science Program at St. Clair and plans to enroll in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing after that.
Trotter is very excited to join the Saints. “After carefully considering my options to continue my education and volleyball career I can’t wait to get started at St. Clair. There were many factors involved in this decision including the great scholarship program, sport and education facilities that are second to none, and playing for a top end coach like Jimmy El-Turk.”
St. Clair head coach Jimmy El-Turk is looking forward to having Trotter on the team next year. “We are thrilled to have an athlete with such experience and pedigree as Madison. It’s rare that you find an athlete who has the skill, the experience, and the leadership that Madison possesses and we are very lucky that she has decided to attend St. Clair College next season. It’s always great to add local athletes to the roster, and it’s even better when they are of the quality of Madison, as an athlete, a student, and most importantly as a person,” stated El-Turk.
St. Clair finished the regular season with a record of 10-8 in the OCAA West Division and tied for 4th place. However, due to tiebreakers the Saints ended up in 6th place and had to travel to Trent to take on the 3rd place Excalibur in a playoff cross over match which they lost. Trent finished their regular season with a record of 16-4 and ranked 3rd in Ontario.
St. Clair is putting in a bid to host the OCAA Championships at the Sportsplex next February. Should the bid be successful the Saints will earn an automatic berth into the Championship. The official announcement of the host will be confirmed at the OCAA AGM in late April.
