RECORD NBA PLAYERS IN OLYMPICS FOR 2016

46 NBA AND 26 WNBA PLAYERS TO COMPETE IN 2016 OLYMPIC BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT. 23 NBA Teams, 11 WNBA Teams Represented on National Team Rosters 

A record 46 current NBA players will be featured on national team rosters for the Men’s basketball tournament at the 2016 Olympic Games, up from 41 in 2012.  The Women’s basketball tournament will feature a record 26 current WNBA players, surpassing the previous record of 22 in 2000.

Twenty-three NBA teams have players represented on national team rosters, with the San Antonio Spurs topping the list with five players.  The Utah Jazz has four players competing, while the Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks, Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks and Toronto Raptors each have three.  Six NBA teams (Brooklyn Nets, Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Lakers, Oklahoma City Thunder and Philadelphia 76ers) have two players in the tournament.

Outside of the United States, Spain has the most NBA players on its roster with seven.  Australia, Brazil and France each feature five NBA players, followed by Argentina with four.  Ten of the 12 teams competing in this year’s Men’s tournament have at least one current NBA player.

There are 11 WNBA teams represented on national team rosters.  The Phoenix Mercury leads the way with six players, followed by the Minnesota Lynx with five.  The Chicago Sky and Seattle Storm each have three players participating, while the Atlanta Dream and Indiana Fever have two apiece.

Aside from the United States, Australia and Brazil have the most WNBA players with three each.  Serbia and Spain both feature two WNBA players.

Forty former NBA and WNBA players are also scheduled to participate in the Men’s and Women’s tournaments, including seven members of the Australian National Teams and six players on the Brazilian National Teams.
