NHL MILESTONES & MUSINGS FEB. 5. 2016

  • Mike Babcock (TOR) became the 25th head coach in NHL history – and second in the past week (also Dave Tippett, ARI) – to serve 1,000 games behind the bench (546-307-147). Per Sportsnet Stats, his 546 wins rank second in League history through 1,000 games behind Scotty Bowman (598).
  • Captain Ryan Getzlaf (1-1—2), who has spent his entire NHL career with the Ducks, became the second player in franchise history to record 500 assists. The other: Teemu Selanne (531).
  • Avalanche forward Jarome Iginla (0-1—1) played in his 1,446th career game to tie Tim Horton for 23rd place in NHL history.
  • Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf and Wild defenseman Ryan Suter both played in their 800th NHL game. Maple Leafs teammates Joffrey Lupul (700) and Nazem Kadri (300) also played in milestone games.
  • Jaromir Jagr posted 1-2—3 and Roberto Luongo made 36 saves to continue their climbs up the NHL’s all-time charts and lead the Panthers to their fifth consecutive victory.
  • Roberto Luongo earned his 424th career win to move past Tony Esposito (423) and into sole possession of seventh place in NHL history. He also extended his franchise record with his ninth consecutive home victory (1.53 GAA, .947 SV%, 2 SO).
