NHL ALL-STAR LAST MEN IN PERRON, HUGHES CONTRIBUTE IN WINS

Blues forward David Perron (1-0—1) and Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes (0-1—1), who were among the four players to win the final roster spots for the 2020 Honda NHL All-Star Weekend on Saturday as a result of voting in the 2020 NHL All-Star Last Men In presented by adidas, each found the score sheet to help their teams secure wins.

Perron scored his League-leading eighth winning goal of the season as St. Louis improved to 8-0-0 in its last eight contests at Enterprise Center, the second-longest home win streak in franchise history behind a nine-game run from Jan. 26 – Feb. 26, 1991. Perron, who leads the Western Conference-leading Blues in goals and points in 2019-20 (20-26—46 in 46 GP), moved within four game winners of matching the single-season franchise record – a mark set by Brett Hull in 1989-90 (12).

Hughes, meanwhile, was one of 12 Vancouver players with at least one point Saturday as the Canucks improved to 8-2-0 in their last 10 contests. Hughes (4-27—31 in 44 GP) owns the third-most points among rookies this season behind Victor Olofsson (16-19—35 in 42 GP) and fellow defenseman Cale Makar (9-24—33 in 37 GP).

MARLEAU, THORNTON REACH GAMES PLAYED MILESTONES IN PAVELSKI’S RETURN
On the night Stars forward Joe Pavelski returned to SAP Center, his former teammate Patrick Marleau (1-0—1) played in his 1,700th career regular-season game and became the fifth player in NHL history to reach the milestone – joining Gordie Howe (1,767), Mark Messier (1,756), Jaromir Jagr (1,733) and Ron Francis (1,731).

Marleau skated his 831st consecutive regular-season game dating to April 9, 2009 and passed Andrew Cogliano (830 GP; Oct. 4, 2007 – Jan. 13, 2018) for sole possession of the fifth-longest “Ironman” streak in League history.

Marleau wasn’t the only Sharks player to climb the NHL’s all-time games played list Saturday, with longtime partner in crime Joe Thornton appearing in his 1,613th career regular-season contest to pass Ray Bourque (1,612) for sole possession of 11th place in League annals.

MORE HIGHLIGHTS FROM SATURDAY

Torey Krug assisted on the overtime winner while skating his 500th career regular-season game as the Bruins improved to 27-8-11 (65 points) this season and passed the Capitals (30-11-5, 65 points) for first place in the NHL standings. The native of Livonia, Mich. collected his 319th point – the fourth-most by a defenseman through their first 500 regular-season games with the franchise (NHL debut or otherwise) behind Bobby Orr (198-472—670), Ray Bourque (153-363—516) and Brad Park (100-316—416).

Elias Lindholm scored his 19th and 20th goals of the season (20-16—36 in 47 GP) to help the Flames defeat the Oilers and extend their win streak to five games. Calgary (25-17-5, 55 points), which moved into first place in the Pacific Division standings, improved to 2-0-0 in its five-game season series with Edmonton (EDM: 0-2-0); the three remaining contests are set to take place on Jan. 29, Feb. 1 and April 4.

James Reimer made 41 saves to backstop the Hurricanes, who donned vintage Hartford jerseys as part of Whalers Night at PNC Arena, to their second shutout win in as many days (also Jan. 10: 3-0 W vs. ARI). Carolina earned a shutout win on consecutive days for the second time in franchise history (also March 6-7, 2003).

Ilya Kovalchuk scored at 4:08 of overtime – his first goal since being signed by Montreal on Jan. 3 (1-3—4 in 4 GP) – as the Canadiens defeated the Senators to snap an eight-game slide (0-7-1). Kovalchuk scored his 16th career regular-season overtime goal and tied Patrik Elias and Daniel Sedin for third place on the NHL’s all-time list.
