The NHL announced three of its regular-season trophy winners: the Art Ross Trophy, Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy and William M. Jennings Trophy.

  • Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane captured his first career Art Ross Trophy as the League’s scoring champion. Kane (Buffalo, N.Y.), who finished the season with a career-high 46 goals, 60 assists and 106 points, became the first U.S.-born player in NHL history to win the award.
  • Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin scored 50 goals to claim his fourth consecutive and sixth overall Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy. He became the third player in NHL history to total seven or more 50-goal seasons, following Mike Bossy and Wayne Gretzky – each with nine.
  • Ducks goaltenders Frederik Andersen and John Gibson combined to win the first William M. Jennings Trophy in their careers as well as franchise history. Anaheim (192 GA) posted a 2-0 victory on Sunday to leapfrog Washington (193 GA), its opponent, for the award.

MILESTONES & MUSINGS

  • Capitals forward Justin Williams became the 28th active player to reach the 1,000-game milestone.
  • Islanders forward Ross Johnston, who signed with the team as an undrafted free agent, made his NHL debut.
  • The Ducks became the first team to lead the NHL in both power-play (23.1%) and penalty-kill (87.2%) efficiency since the 1984-85 Islanders
  • The Ducks, who were 17-17-7 and 16 points out of first place midway through the season (Jan. 12), went 29-8-4 in their final 41 games to claim their fifth division title in franchise history (also 2006-07).
  • Down 2-0 midway through the first period, the Flyers scored five unanswered goals to spoil the Islanders’ hopes of moving into third place in the Metropolitan Division.
