NHL REIVEW OCTOBER 11, 2025 – MORE HIGH-SCORING GAMES HIGHLIGHT BUSIEST NIGHT TO DATE

The first of two 16-game days this season (also Oct. 28) was highlighted by a quartet of high-scoring performances as the Red Wings, Blue Jackets, Rangers and Panthers each scored at least six goals apiece en route to victory. The clubs combined for 25 of the 110 total goals scored across the League on Saturday – the second-highest scoring day in NHL history behind Nov. 4, 2023 (114 goals; 15 GP).

  • The Maple Leafs and Red Wings traded 2-0 and 3-2 leads, but Patrick Kane (1-2—3) collected his third point of the night on Lucas Raymond’s 100th career goal and propelled Detroit to its first win of the season. Raymond, who netted two of his club’s six tallies Saturday, became the fourth Swedish-born player in NHL history to score 100 career goals at age 23 or younger alongside Mats Sundin (142), Filip Forsberg (117), Gabriel Landeskog (104) and Elias Pettersson (103).
  • Kirill Marchenko (3-0—3) scored a hat trick while his teammates Zach Werenski (1-2—3) and Boone Jenner (1-2—3) each posted three-point games as the Blue Jackets netted seven goals against the Wild en route to their first victory of the 2025-26 season. Werenski, who scored his 114th career goal and moved into sixth place on the Blue Jackets all-time list, registered his 16th career three-point game and tied David Vyborny for the fourth most in franchise history. Jenner, with the help of his 200th career goal, also moved into a tie for seventh place on that same list.
  • Adam Fox (2-1—3) factored on three goals, including scoring the game winner, and Mika Zibanejad found the back of the net to climb a franchise list as the Rangers potted six goals against the Penguins to help head coach Mike Sullivan earn a win in his return to Pittsburgh. Fox, the first Rangers defenseman to score in each of the team’s first two road games of a season, notched his third goal of 2025-26 and joined Mike McEwen (3 in 1978-79) as the second defenseman in franchise history with as many through the team’s first three contests of a campaign.
  • The reigning Stanley Cup champion Panthers received goals from six different scorers, including Sam Reinhart (1-0—1), who was one of six players already named to Team Canada’s preliminary roster for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. Florida, which started a season with three straight wins for the third time in franchise history, is one of two teams off to a perfect 3-0-0 start this season, alongside Boston.

CARLSSON, McTAVISH AND DUCKS OUTLAST CELEBRINI, SMITH AND SHARKS IN THRILLER

Macklin Celebrini (0-3—3) and Will Smith (0-3—3) propelled the Sharks to 2-0, 3-2 and 6-4 leads, but Ducks teammates Leo Carlsson (1-2—3) and Mason McTavish (0-3—3) spearheaded a dramatic come-from-behind overtime victory at SAP Center as Anaheim erased a multi-goal deficit in the final 10 minutes of regulation thanks to a tying tally in the final 60 seconds.

  • Carlsson, whose six career game-winning goals are the most by a Ducks player before their 21st birthday, helped the franchise skate to victory after erasing three separate deficits in the same game for the fifth time in the past decade and first since Jan. 6, 2023 (vs. SJS). Anaheim earned three victories in 2024-25 after erasing a multi-goal deficit in the final 10 minutes of regulation, which was tied with Seattle for the most among all clubs.
  • McTavish, whose five career three-assist games are the most by a Ducks player before age 23, boosted his 2025-26 totals to 0-4—4. He tied the most assists by an Anaheim skater through their first two games of a season, alongside Jakob Silfverberg (0-4—4 in 2018-19), Saku Koivu (1-4—5 in 2012-13) and Andrew Cogliano (0-4—4 in 2012-13).
  • Celebrini, who potted his fourth career three-point game and tied the most by a Sharks teenager in franchise history (also: Jeff Friesen & Pat Falloon), boosted his career totals to 25-41—66 (72 GP). In the process, he tied Friesen (41 in 127 GP) for the second-most assists by a teenager in franchise history behind Patrick Marleau (43 in 155 GP).

SCHAEFER ONE OF SEVERAL YOUNG STARS THAT SHONE SATURDAY

A trio of recent first-round picks stole the spotlight Saturday as Matthew Schaefer (No. 1 in 2025), Luke Hughes (No. 4 in 2021) and Zack Bolduc (No. 17 in 2021) each found the score sheet.

  • Schaefer found the score sheet for the second time in as many games to begin his NHL career and did so with his first goal. Schaefer, the third Islanders defenseman to collect a point in each of his first two career games, became the fifth-youngest player in the past 50 years (since 1975-76) to score a goal behind Aleksander Barkov (18 years, 31 days), Jordan Staal (18 years, 32 days), Patrick Marleau (18 years, 34 days) and Nino Niederreiter (18 years, 35 days).
  • Hughes (0-2—2) factored on two of his team’s five goals to help the Devils defeat the Lightning and earn their first victory of the 2025-26 season. Hughes (22 years, 32 days) became the fourth-youngest defenseman in NHL history to record multiple assists in each of his team’s first two games of a season, following Phil Housley (19 years, 213 days; 2 GP in 1983-84), Al Iafrate (21 years, 203 days; 2 GP in 1987-88) and Bobby Orr (21 years, 209 days; 2 GP in 1969-70). His 18th career multi-assist game also tied Jake Sanderson, Dave Ellett and Reed Larson for the sixth most by a U.S.-born defenseman at age 22 or younger.
  • Bolduc (1-1—2) found the back of the net for the third straight game to start the season and became the first Canadiens player since Yanic Perreault (3 GP in 2001-02) to score in each of his first three contests with the franchise. The 22-year-old from Trois-Rivieres, Que. also became the third different Canadiens player in the past 40 years to score in each of the team’s first three road games of a season, following Cole Caufield (4 GP in 2024-25) and Tomas Plekanec (3 GP in 2014-15 & 2012-13).
