BERGERON’S HAT TRICK HELPS BRUINS PUSH POINT STREAK TO 15 GAMES
Patrice Bergeron (3-0—3) scored his second hat trick of the season (4-1—5 on Jan. 6 vs. CAR) to help the Bruins push their point streak to 15 games (11-0-4), the longest in the NHL this season.
This marks the ninth time in franchise history that the Bruins have recorded one or more points in at least 15 consecutive games – and third time in the past seven seasons (also 15 GP in 2011-12 and 16 GP in 2013-14). They are the only club with more than two point streaks of at least 15 games since 2011-12.
Bergeron became the fourth player to record multiple hat tricks this season, joining Alex Ovechkin (3),Gabriel Landeskog (2) and John Tavares (2). He also became the first Bruins player to score multiple hat tricks in a span of six team games since Rick Tocchet in 1995-96 (5 GP).
GOLDEN KNIGHTS DEFEAT LIGHTNING TO REACH 30-WIN MARK
Four different skaters found the back of the net and Marc-Andre Fleury made 28 saves to help the Western Conference-leading Golden Knights (30-11-3, 63 points) defeat the League-leading Lightning (31-11-3, 65 points) and move within two points of Tampa Bay for first place in the NHL standings. Vegas became the fifth team in NHL history to reach the 30-win mark in its inaugural season.
Fleury improved to 10-3-2 this season (1.72 GAA, .945 SV%, 2 SO) and paces the NHL in goals-against average (tied) and save percentage among netminders to appear in at least 15 games. He also earned the 385th win of his NHL career to move into a tie with Mike Vernon for 14th place on the NHL’s all-time list among goaltenders.
