YANDLE SETS NHL RECORD FOR MOST CONSECUTIVE GAMES PLAYED
Flyers defenseman Keith Yandle skated in his 965th consecutive regular-season game and passed Doug Jarvis (964 GP from Oct. 8, 1975–Oct. 10, 1987) for sole possession of the longest “Ironman” streak in League history.
- Jarvis and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman congratulated Yandle Tuesday, while Philadelphia and his former teams Arizona, New York and Florida all took to social media to praise the defenseman during his record-setting night.
- Yandle’s streak has spanned more than 12 years, four franchises and parts of 14 seasons – a stretch that has seen him cross paths with many League legends such as Wayne Gretzky, Shane Doan, Henrik Lundqvist, Martin St. Louis and Jaromir Jagr.
BY THE NUMBERS
A look at some of the numbers behind Keith Yandle’s “Ironman” streak:
- 25,091 – Shifts logged by Yandle during his streak entering game No. 965.

- 480 – Wins by Yandle’s teams during his streak entering game No. 965.
- 269 – Power-play points registered by Yandle during his streak, the most among defensemen during that span entering game No. 965.
- 84 – Number of regular-season games played by Yandle in 2014-15, two more than any single team played that season. He is one of just four defensemen to play as many in a single campaign since the NHL introduced the 82-game schedule in 1995-96.

- 8 – Percentage of current NHL players who were in the League when Yandle’s streak began.
- 4 – Number of players who skated in the Coyotes-Oilers game March 26, 2009 who remain in the NHL – Andrew Cogliano (SJS), Sam Gagner (DET), Kyle Turris (EDM) and Yandle.
- 1 – Number of times, at a minimum, that Yandle has thanked his goaltender for settling the puck behind the net.
OTHER VETERANS CROSBY, PAVELSKI POWER STARS, PENGUINS TO WINS
Penguins captain Sidney Crosby (1-2—3) and Stars forward Joe Pavelski (2-2—4) each had at least three points in victories:
- Crosby capped his three-point night – which included a highlight-reel assist on a goal by Bryan Rust (1-2—3) – with the game winner as Pittsburgh overcame three separate deficits to defeat Arizona and extend its winning streak to six contests. The Penguins (27-10-5, 59 points) occupy second place in the Metropolitan Division and moved within one point of the first-place Rangers (28-11-4, 60 points), who were idle Tuesday.
- Pavelski (19-29—48 in 40 GP) factored on four goals, including each of the Stars’ tallies in the opening 15 seconds of the first and second period, to reach 48 points on the season and help Dallas (22-16-2, 46 points) leapfrog idle Calgary (19-12-6, 44 points) for the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. The Stars became the sixth team in NHL history to score a goal in the first 15 seconds of multiple periods in a game, joining the Oilers (Dec. 28, 1990), Rangers (March 15, 1989), original Winnipeg Jets (March 5, 1988), North Stars (Oct. 11, 1986) and Penguins (Nov. 2, 1976).
ENNIS EARNING HAT TRICK
Tuesday, Senators forward Tyler Ennis scored the second hat trick of his NHL career (also March 4, 2019 w/ TOR) and Mason Marchment (2-1—3) posted three points to help the Panthers (29-9-5, 63 points) overtake first place in the League standings.
