RED WINGS ESTABLISH NHL RECORD WITH SHOOTOUT WIN
Jimmy Howard made 44 saves through 65 minutes and denied all three attempts in the shootout in a 3-2 win over the Florida Panthers to help the Red Wings snap a six-game slide (0-5-1).
Detroit has won 12 consecutive games that required a shootout dating to Feb. 23, 2016. The Red Wings established the longest win streak in NHL history in games that required a shootout, eclipsing the mark set by the Stars from Nov. 5, 2005 – March 24, 2006 (11-0-0).
TAVARES NETS SECOND HAT TRICK IN PAST THREE GAMES
John Tavares scored three consecutive goals in the third period to net his second hat trick in his past three games (also Oct. 24 vs. ARI) and power the Islanders to a 6-4-1 record. Tavares became the third different player in franchise history to record two hat tricks in a span of three team games or less.
LAST-SECOND OVERTIME GOAL LIFTS SURGING KINGS PAST BRUINS
Tyler Toffoli (2-0—2) scored off of a faceoff with less than a second remaining in overtime to lift the Kings to a 9-1-1 record, equaling their best 11-game start to a season in franchise history (also 9-1-1 in 1980-81).
BLUES, DEVILS CONTINUE STRONG STARTS
In addition to the Kings, the Blues and Devils each earned wins to continue their strong starts to the season.
Scottie Upshall (1-2—3) registered his first three-point game since Nov. 8, 2014 (2-1—3 vs. CGY) to help theBlues extend their point streak to six games (5-0-1) and improve to 9-2-1 overall. St. Louis earned nine wins through its first 12 games of a season for the sixth time in franchise history and first since 2010-11 (9-1-2).
Jesper Bratt (1-2—3) scored the go-ahead goal with 4:13 remaining in regulation to help the Devils improve to 8-2-0, equaling their highest win total through the first 10 games of a season in franchise history (also 8-2-0 in 1993-94).
