The only Canadiensrookie goaltender to record more than 38 saves in a shutout was Tony Esposito (41 saves) on Dec. 21, 1968.
Petr Mrazek turned aside all 36 shots he faced to record his first shutout of the season (11th career) and help the Red Wings improve to 3-1-0 in their past four contests.
FLAMES EARN THIRD CONSECUTIVE WIN
Sean Monahan (1-1—2) and Johnny Gaudreau (0-2—2) recorded multi-point efforts to extend their respective point streaks to four games and Matthew Tkachuk tallied the decisive marker in the shootout to lift the Flames (8-6-0, 16 points) to a third consecutive victory.
Flames goaltender Mike Smith made 26 saves to improve to 8-5-0 this season (2.32 GAA, .932 SV%, 1 SO). Smith’s niece, Elle, who is battling cancer, was part of a special ceremony prior to the game as part of Calgary’s Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Night.
