Nikita Kucherov (1-1—2) and Steven Stamkos (1-0—1) extended their season-opening point streaks to 11 games to help the Lightning improve to 9-1-1 (19 points) in their 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings last night, their best 11-game start to a season in franchise history. Kucherov and Stamkos matched the franchise record for longest point streak to begin a season, a mark set by Martin St. Louis in 2009-10 (3-12—15 in 11 GP).

Andrei Vasilevskiy made 29 saves to improve to 9-1-0 this season (2.20 GAA, .936 SV%, 1 SO) and extend his career-high win streak to eight games, matching the longest such run by a goaltender in franchise history.

KESSEL HITS MILESTONE WITH SECOND STRAIGHT OVERTIME GOAL
Phil Kessel scored the 300th goal of his NHL career at 1:07 of overtime to lift the Penguins to a 7-3-1 record. Kessel who also scored in overtime of Pittsburgh’s game Tuesday vs. EDM – became the second player in franchise history to score an overtime goal in consecutive team games, joining Aleksey Morozov (March 19-21, 2004).

The Penguins have won 17 consecutive home games against the Jets/Thrashers dating to March 24, 2007 (WPG: 0-13-4).

RED WINGS MILESTONE
With an assist in last night’s game, Detroit Red Wing Justin Abdelkader picked up his 200th career point.

GOLDEN KNIGHTS LOOK TO CONTINUE HISTORIC START
The Golden Knights (7-1-0, 14 points), who are the only club in the 100-year history of the NHL to begin its inaugural season with wins in seven of its first eight games, aim for a fifth consecutive victory when they host the Avalanche in a Nevada Day matinee at T-Mobile Arena.
