NHL NEWS OCTOBER 9, 2022 – PREDATORS COMPLETE GLOBAL SERIES SWEEP

NIEDERREITER NETS ANOTHER TWO AS PREDATORS COMPLETE GLOBAL SERIES SWEEP
Nino Niederreiter notched two goals – including the game winner with 7:47 remaining in the second period – as Nashville edged San Jose to sweep its 2022 NHL Global Series back-to-back at O2 Arena in Prague, Czechia.

  • Niederreiter and San Jose’s Logan Couture scored second-period goals 10 seconds apart. It marked the fastest two goals in a regular-season game played outside of North America, eclipsing the previous mark of 13 seconds from the contest at Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, Sweden, on Oct. 3, 2009 (Brad Boyes & Patrik Berglund, both w/ STL).
  • Kevin Lankinen made 31 saves to backstop Nashville to victory in his team debut. His 31 saves were the fifth most in Predators history by a goaltender making his team debut behind Jan Lasak (39 on April 9, 2002), Pekka Rinne (35 on Dec. 15, 2005), David Rittich (33 on Nov. 11, 2021) and Connor Ingram (33 on Oct. 24, 2021).
  • The Predators improved to 3-1-0 in four all-time regular-season games contested outside of North America. Nashville became the third franchise with three wins overseas, joining Ottawa (3-0-1 in 4 GP) and Anaheim (3-3-0 in 6 GP).

MORE HIGHLIGHTS FROM PRAGUE
Czechia native Jaromir Jagr (766-1,155—1,921 in 1,733 GP), the highest-scoring player in NHL history born outside of North America, participated in a ceremonial puck drop and received a standing ovation from the crowd of 17,023 in Prague.

  • Sharks captain Logan Couture has scored at least one NHL goal in four different countries – in addition to his goal Saturday in Czechia and tallies in Canada and the United States, he also got the go-ahead marker with 9:45 remaining in regulation at Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, Sweden, on Oct. 8, 2010. Couture became the sixth player in League history with at least one goal in four different countries (excluding exhibition/preseason games).

SENATORS CLAIM SECOND KRAFT HOCKEYVILLE WIN OF THE WEEK
Playing in front of 1,155 fans from Elsipogtog First Nation at J.K. Irving Centre in Bouctouche, N.B., the Senators claimed a 3-2 overtime win to pick up their second Kraft Hockeyville Canada win of the week in the 15th such game in history. Ottawa’s win against Montreal came 16 years after the clubs met in the first-ever Hockeyville event – the winning community that year also was on the east coast of Canada (Salmon River, N.S.).

  • Saturday marked the seventh Kraft Hockeyville game for Ottawa and the fifth for Montreal, first and second most among NHL clubs.

NHL HIGHLIGHTING WOMEN IN HOCKEY OPERATIONS ACROSS ALL TEAMS
The NHL will celebrate women in hockey throughout the 2022-23 season by highlighting women from each of the 32 teams, starting with Flyers hockey analyst, Katie Yates. With an impressive educational background including two master’s degrees, Yates uses data to inform decisions, with a particular emphasis on supporting strength and conditioning, sports performance, as well as coaching and player development. • Leading into the 2022-23 pre-season, the NHL released a comprehensive information pack on the women working in hockey operations across the League after a monumental off-season, focused on the additions of assistant general managers, scouting and player development roles. This season will feature the most women in hockey operations than ever before.
