Detroit Red Wings Luke Witkowski Suspended 10 Games
Detroit Red Wings forward Luke Witkowski has been automatically suspended for 10 games, without pay, for violating Rule 70.6 during NHL Game No. 275 in Detroit on Wednesday, Nov. 15, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety.
The incident occurred at 14:04 of the third period. Witkowski, who already had received a major penalty and misconduct for fighting, was assessed a game misconduct for violating Rule 70.6.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Witkowski will forfeit $40,322.60. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
Luke Witkowski of the Detroit Red Wings issued the following statement today in regards to his recent 10-game suspension handed down by the National Hockey League:
“I have decided not to appeal the 10-game suspension stemming from what happened against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday, November 15 in Detroit. After consulting with the NHLPA and reviewing the options, I accept and understand that the wording of the rule, combined with what happened during the incident, leave little to no chance of a successful appeal.” – Luke Witkowski
Witwkowski was suspended for 10 games for violating National Hockey League rule 70.6 which states “any player or goalkeeper who has been ordered to the dressing room by the officials and returns to his bench or to the ice surface for any reason before the appropriate time shall be assessed a game misconduct and shall be suspended automatically without pay for the next ten (10) regular League and/or Play-off games.”
Calgary Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk has been suspended for one game, without pay, for unsportsmanlike conduct during Wednesday’s game by the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety.
Tkachuk is considered a repeat offender under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, will forfeit $11,280.49. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
