DETROIT RED WINGS RELEASE CLEARY REDUCE ROSTER BY 11

The Detroit Red Wings today assigned center Dominic Turgeon and goaltender Jake Paterson to the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins and forward Givani Smith (Guelph) and defenseman Filip Hronek (Saginaw) to their respective Ontario Hockey League clubs. Additionally, the team released seven players on tryout contracts who will join the Griffins for training camp: forwards Mike Borkowski, Daniel Cleary, Alex Globke, Matthew Ford and Mathew Santos, defenseman Matthew Caito and goaltender Cal Heeter.

The Red Wings currently have 50 players on their preseason roster, including Frans Nielsen, Tomas Tatar and Thomas Vanek, who will rejoin the team after competing for Team Europe at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. Currently 2-0-1 in preseason play, the Red Wings will host the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. in the first of five preseason games in a seven-day span.
