Red Wings Review February 8-14, 2021

Broken Wings – Tyler Bertuzzi continues to be out of the lineup with an upper body injury. Luke Glendening and Jonathan Bernier missed the beginning of the week and returned Saturday. Darren Helm did not play Saturday due to injury. The Red Wings added Calvin Pickard to COVID protocol Saturday.

Wing Movement – No significant moves happened over the week. Accounting moves to and from taxi squad, along with Bernier and Picard’s injury-based moves, were the only roster movements for the week.
Game Review – The Red Wings played three games this week. They opened their week with the second game of a two-game series against the Florida Panthers. After losing 2-1 to Florida, the Wings played a full two-game series vs the Nashville Predators. They lost the first game 3-2 on a last-minute goal against and won on Saturday 4-2 on a strong outing by the team. The Red Wings earned two of six possible points this week and finished the week last (8th) in the Central Division and 30th in the NHL.

Talking Hockey – After seeing a notable swing in their play over the last week, the Red Wings played strong games all week and looked like an NHL team the entire week. Both the Florida game and the first game against Nashville were competitive. The Wings dominated Nashville on Saturday, never allowing the Predators a chance to even get into the game for the first two periods. If the Wings can play three out of every five games over the rest of this season like they played this week, they will be in a place to contend for a playoff spot next season.

Player of the Week – Robby Fabbri – No single player stood out this week as the Red Wings played strong team games, but Fabbri’s 2 goals and 1 assist over the week set the standard for the team this week.
