Ride Don’t Hide, VIRTUALLY in 2020

For the last six years Ride Don’t Hide has created a movement in Windsor-Essex. Thousands of individuals have participated and shown their support for mental health. In 2020 the Ride will be a little different due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ride Don’t Hide, VIRTUALLY encourages individuals and families to continue the tradition that has been created. Instead of riding a designated route with others, we are encouraging people to create their own rides, ride inside or even virtually to show their support.

We don’t have to ride shoulder to shoulder to stand up together for mental health. Riders – and spinners, walkers, runners, yogis, kitchen dancers, meditators, and every other mental health champion – across Canada this spring are Riding Outside, Riding Inside, or Riding In Spirit to bring mental health into the open, wherever we are.

Locally, the Ride Don’t Hide launch will be held via Facebook Live on Thursday, May 7 at 10 a.m.

“We can’t be together, but in Ride Don’t Hide, Virtually, no one rides alone. We may be at home, but together we’re a movement for mental health. Even in uncertain times – especially in uncertain times – we need our communities more than ever. Ride Don’t Hide, Virtually aims to bring you a sense of agency, wellness, connection, contribution, community and belonging,” said Claudia den Boer, CEO, CMHA-WECB.

The Ride Don’t Hide movement began in 2010 with Michael Schratter, a Canadian teacher living with bipolar disorder who spent almost a year and a half cycling around the world armed with only his bike and knapsack. His dream of empowering those experiencing mental illness touched people all over the world, and his journey has become a national movement that is both raising funds and breaking the stigma around mental illness.

Since 2013 Ride Don’t Hide has raised over $225,000 in support of the Bereavement program, Client Assistance Fund and Mental Health Education at CMHA-WECB.

Ride Don’t Hide, Virtually Launch on Facebook Live @CMHAWECB at 10:00am Thursday, May 7th.
