St. Clair Saints Volleyball Review March 6, 2022
ST. CLAIR WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL END REGULAR SEASON WITH SPLIT
The St. Clair women’s volleyball team wrapped up their OCAA regular season schedule with a split this weekend.
On Friday afternoon, the Saints hosted the top ranked Humber Hawks (Etobicoke) and suffered a tough 3-0 loss in an rare afternoon matinee.
Set scores for Humber were 25-19, 25-15 and 25-15. The Saints fell behind early in each set and could not claw their way back after that. Outside hitter Chantal DeVlugt (Wyoming; LCCVI) led the way for St. Clair with 6 kills, 2 service aces, 1 stuff block and 2 digs. Humber improved to 7-1 on the year with the win. The Hawks are ranked in 1st in Ontario and 4th in Canada.
On Saturday afternoon the Saints travelled to Oakville to take on the Sheridan Bruins and came home with a solid 3-1 win.
Set scores for St. Clair were 24-26, 25-11, 25-14 and 25-14. Rookie outside hitter Kiana Huggins (London; Saunders) had a great match for the Saints with 10 kills, 1 service ace, 1 stuff block and 13 digs. Rookie middle Krista Nichol (Hamilton; Westmount) also had a solid game with 3 kills on 7 attempts , 3 service aces, 2 stuff blocks, 4 assists and a dig in 2 only two sets played. Rookie setter Kate Williams (Georgetown; Georgetown District) had an outstanding match as well spreading the ball around well with 25 assists, 2 kills, 3 service aces and 5 digs.
With the split St. Clair ends the COVID shortened regular season with a record of 6-3. The St. Clair women are currently ranked in 5th in Ontario
The Saints have earned a playoff home game which will take place at the Sportsplex on Thursday at 7 pm.

The St. Clair men’s volleyball team wrapped up their OCAA regular season schedule losing a couple tough matches to some high ranked competition on the weekend.
On Friday afternoon, the Saints hosted the top ranked Humber Hawks (Etobicoke) and suffered a tough 3-0 loss in an rare afternoon matinee.
Set scores for Humber were 25-10, 25-16 and 25-18. Rookie outside hitter Jaiden Nuckles (Windsor; Vincent Massey) had a solid game for St. Clair with 4 kills, 1 service ace, 1 stuff block and 4 digs. Humber improved to 8-0 on the year with the win. The Hawks are ranked in 1st in Ontario and 1st in Canada.
On Saturday afternoon the Saints travelled to Oakville to take on the Sheridan Bruins and came home with a 3-0 loss.
Set scores for Sheridan were 25-9, 25-22 and 25-20. Jacob Derksen (Cottam; Essex District) had a great match for the Saints with 9 kills and 1 service ace. March Galipeau (LaSalle; Sandwich) also had a solid game with 10 kills. With the win the Bruins improved to 7-2 on the season. Sheridan is ranked 5th in Ontario.
With the two losses St. Clair ends the COVID shortened regular season with a record of 1-8. The Saints ended up missing the playoffs by one win in the very tough OCAA West Division. COVID played havoc with the St. Clair roster for the first few matches of the season and the Saints had issues getting in sync with many players coming and going for the first couple weeks.
