Men’s Volleyball Take Down Fanshawe in Battle for First
The St. Clair College men’s volleyball team continued their second semester OCAA schedule on Wednesday night defeating the Fanshawe College in 3-2 in an exciting back and forth match at the Sportsplex. Set scores for St. Clair were 24-26, 25-19, 25-21, 21-25 and 15-12.
It was a outstanding all around team effort by the Saints. Rookie outsider hitter Arthur Richard (Woodstock; Woodstock Collegiate) led the way offensively with 16 kills and a .519 kill percentage. Third year middle Jonah Certossi (Belle River; Belle River District) had a great match as well with 10 kills on 19 attempts, 2 service aces and 4 stuff blocks. Third year setter Nick Kwiatkowski (Essex: Essex District) had a solid match spreading the ball around well with 48 assists, 11 digs, 1 kill, 3 service aces and 2 stuff blocks.
The Saints are now 12-3 on the season and are ranked 1st in Ontario and 5th in Canada. The Falcons dropped to 10-5 with the loss and are ranked 3rd in the OCAA and 11th in the CCAA.
St. Clair will wrap up their regular season home schedule on Saturday at 2 pm against the 2nd place Conestoga College Condors. The Saints will be honouring their graduating seniors prior to the match.
Women’s Volleyball Win Fourth Straight
The St. Clair College women’s volleyball team continued their second semester OCAA schedule on Wednesday night defeating the Fanshawe College Falcons 3-0. Set scores for St. Clair were 25-14, 25-21, and 25-16.
Rookie outsider hitter Brianne Hobbin (Guelph; Centennial CV) had a big game for the Saints with 12 kills on 27 attempts, 1 service ace, 1 stuff block and 8 digs. Third year libero Mikayla Stocks (LaSalle; Sandwich) continued her outstanding play with 3 assists and 7 digs.
The Saints are now 13-2 on the season and are ranked 2nd in Ontario and 8th in Canada. The Falcons record fell to 3-12 with the loss.
