Scott Speed made it two in a row in Red Bull GRC competition with an unblemished weekend at RFK Stadium in Washington DC.

Despite intense battles with a stacked field and a heavy rain shower that dampened the track, Scott Speed swept qualifying, his heats, and the main event for Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross.

“Thank you so much to the fans who came out here at our nation’s capital,” an elated Speed said from the top step of the podium. “There’s no question that this is the race that we all look forward to the most. It’s such great racing here, and we are back in the hunt—two wins and we are on a great roll!”

After failing to reach the podium in the previous two years in Washington DC, the Volkswagen duo of Speed and Tanner Foust came out with a vengeance this weekend, but heavy challenges from the Ford Fiesta ST of Patrik Sandell and the Honda Civic Coupes of Joni Wiman and Sebastian Eriksson kept the battles close. Volkswagen swept the semifinals, but Wiman kept Speed honest with agile driving in the first semifinal, and Sandell only yielded the lead to Foust on the final lap after an aggressive pass in the dirt in the second.

In the main event, Speed cleared the field in a chaotic first corner that saw Patrik Sandell jump to second and Foust fall back to fourth, behind Brian Deegan. Deegan held off the two-time Supercar champion’s advances for a majority of the race, but Foust would eventually make his way past the Chip Ganassi Racing driver on the final lap for the third and final podium spot.

In GRC Lites, Cabot Bigham withstood a heavy challenge from defending series champion Oliver Eriksson to take his first career Lites victory. Bigham, who raced in front of numerous friends and family members that live in the DC area, also extended his championship lead in the process with only four races remaining.
