Windsor Spitfires Edge Peterborough Petes
Jeremiah Addison scored twice, including the game-winner, and added an assist as the Windsor Spitfires defeated the Peterborough Petes 4-3 at the WFCU Centre in Windsor Sunday afternoon.
Addison’s 10th goal of the season came with under two minutes left in the third period when Gabe Vilardi pounced on a turnover just inside the Peterborough blueline and dished off to a streaking Addison who wired a wrist shot past the outstretched glove-hand of Petes netminder Dylan Wells.
Defenceman Sean Day chipped in with a goal and an assist while rookie Connor Corcoran notched his first career Ontario Hockey League goal for the Spitfires (13-4-1-0).
Corcoran, who returned from the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge in Sault Ste. Marie last week, played on the Spits’ fourth line along with fellow defencemen Andrew Burns and Tyler Nother. The unit gave the team such much-needed depth as Windsor head coach Rocky Thompson, who won his 50th career OHL game, was able to roll four lines for most of the game.
Jonathon Ang paced the Petes offensively with a goal and two assists while Nick Isaacson, Pavel Gogolev, also with his first career OHL goal, had the other markers for the Petes (9-8-0-3)
Michael DiPietro made 19 saves to pick up the win in goal for the Spitfires while Wells made 27 stops at the other end.
The victory improved the Spitfires home record to 10-1 this season and vaulted the team over Sarnia atop the OHL’s West Division standings. The Spitfires also have two games in hand over the Sting.
Windsor returns to action Thursday night for a contest against the Owen Sound Attack at the WFCU Centre.
