St. Clair Men’s Indoor Soccer Team Qualifies for Championship
The St. Clair men’s varsity indoor soccer team travelled to Vaughan to take part in the OCAA Regionals on Monday, February 27 at the Ontario Soccer Centre. The Saints came away with a record of 2-2 on the day and finished in third place in their pool.
In their first match, St. Clair lost to George Brown College by a score of 1-0 in an exciting close game.
The Saints bounced back in their second game to defeat Sault College by a score of 3-0. Nestor Lopez (Windsor; FJ Brennan) scored two for St. Clair with Austin Severino (Kingsville; Kingsville District) adding a single.
In their third match, the Saints defeated the University of Laurier Brantford by a score of 6-1. Lopez, Massimo Pollard (Windsor; Holy Names), Austin Isaac (Chatham; Chatham-Kent SS), Ezra Fogal (Windsor; St. Joseph’s), Zain Nizam (Windsor; Kennedy) and Patrick Maheux (Amherstburg; Villanova) scored for St. Clair.
In their final game of the day St. Clair took on the Durham College Lords and fell by score of 2-1 in a tight back and forth match. Lopez score the lone goal of the game for the Saints.
With the third place finish the men have qualified for the OCAA Final 8 Championship as a Wild Card on March 9th and 10th at the Ontario Soccer Centre.
St. Clair Women ‘s Indoor Soccer Off to Championship
The St. Clair women’s varsity indoor soccer team travelled to Vaughan to take part in the OCAA Regionals on Monday, February 27 at Ontario Soccer Centre. The Saints came away with a record of 2-2 on the day and placed third in their pool.
In their first match, St. Clair defeated lost to Conestoga College by a score of 2-0. Unfortunately the Saints lost starting keeper Athena Dimario Done (Windsor; St. Joseph’s) for the tournament due to an injury in this match. Malary Cole (Thunder Bay; St. Ignatius) stepped in to play goal for the rest of the event.
The Saints fell to George Brown College in their second game by a score of 3-0.
In their third match the Saints defeated the University of Laurier Brantford by a score of 5-1. Jaclyn French (Windsor; FJ Brennan) had 3 goals for St. Clair while Melissa Watson (London; Saunders) scored the other two.
In their final game of the day St. Clair handled Sault College easily by a score of 8-2. French led the way for the Saints with 4 goals.
With the third place pool finish the women have qualified as a Wild Card for the OCAA Final 8 Championship March 9-10 at the Ontario Soccer Centre.
