St. Clair Men’s Baseball Drop Durham in Oshawa
The St. Clair College Men’s Baseball team won two games via mercy Saturday afternoon over Durham College in Oshawa at Kinsmen Civic Memorial Stadium by scores of 14-1 and 10-0. The Saints were 8-0 in OCAA league play and alone in 1st Place as of Saturday..
Rain in the Oshawa area delayed the start of the doubleheader about 30 minutes, but St. Clair was not fazed scoring six quick runs in the 1st inning of game one. After the teams started the 2nd inning rain poured down again forcing another 15-minute delay. Once play resumed the Saints continued to pass through the turnstiles adding five runs for firm control. Durham got on the board in the 4th with a single run, but St. Clair tacked on three runs in the 5th to secure the mercy differential after holding the Lords scoreless in the bottom half. Rowan Glasgow (LaSalle, ON/Sandwich) was 3-for-3 with a walk for the Saints adding 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Brock Whitson (Chatham, ON) threw five innings giving up a run on just two hits and struck out 8 batters for his 3rd win of the season.
St. Clair starter Brady Knelsen (Leamington, ON/Leamington) threw a 5-inning shutout in game two for St. Clair who posted his 3rd win of the season giving up 4 hits while striking out six. The Saints scored two runs in the 2nd and 4th inning on either side of a 5-run 3rd before adding a single in the 5th to complete the scoring. Kanaan Gale (Leamington, ON/Cardinal Carter) had two hits and two RBI in the St. Clair win.
St. Clair Men’s Baseball Top Centennial Twice in Scarborough
The St. Clair College Men’s Baseball team stayed atop the OCAA standings with two wins over Centennial College at Scarborough’s Neilson Park on Sunday notching wins of 4-2 and 9-5. The Saints now hold a perfect 10-0 record with just over half the league schedule complete.
The teams traded single runs in the 1st inning of game one before St. Clair scored a pair in the 3rd and another in the 4th. Centennial threatened in the 7th inning with a run and another aboard, but the Saints were able to close the window. Kanaan Gale (Leamington, ON/Cardinal Carter), Andrew Sleiman (Leamington, ON/Cardinal Carter) and Adrian Harrison (Cottam, ON/Essex) all had two hits and an RBI to pace St. Clair offensively. Michael Grondin (Windsor, ON/Riverside) pitched five innings as the starter for the Saints giving up a hit and two walks with no earned runs against but struck out three for his first win of the season. Cameron Beale (LaSalle, ON/Sandwich) picked up a save in two innings of work giving up a hit, a run and a walk but struck out three Centennial batters.
St. Clair took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning of game two and Centennial answered with a run in the 3rd. The Saints blew the game open with a 5-run 5th inning followed by a 3-run 6th. The home team didn’t give up and scored 4 runs in the final frame before the game concluded. Sleiman had three hits including a double and scored twice to lead St. Clair offensively. Andrew Langlois (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) had two hits with three RBI and Tyler Brown-Amlin (Windsor, ON/Sandwich) also collected two hits with an RBI for the Saints. Henry Real (Panama City, Panama) made his one blast count with a 3-run homer in the 6th inning who has reached base with a hit in each game this season for St. Clair.
The Saints host Fanshawe College (London) in a doubleheader at Lacasse Park on Thursday to resume OCAA league play.
