St. Clair Men’s Soccer Remain Unbeaten in 2023 Season
The St. Clair College men’s soccer team had a big weekend as they travelled to the Hamilton area for two OCAA matches on the road. It was a successful trip for the Saints as they won both games to improve their record to 3 wins and a tie.
On Friday night, the Saints defeated the Redeemer University Royals by a score of 4-0. St. Clair came out slow in the first half but managed to escape with a 1-0 lead with Massimo Pollard (Windsor; Holy Names) scoring in the 14th minute. The Saints came out flying in the second half scoring 3 times early to put the game away. Moussa Nizam (Windsor; Kennedy) put one in the Redeemer goal in the 46th minute assisted by Michael Zivcic (Windsor; St. Joseph’s). Tanner Page (Bothwell; West Elgin) put St. Clair up 3-0 in the 56th minute assisted by Zivcic. Fares Akdar (Windsor; De LaMoth Cadillac) wrapped up the scoring in the 67th minute assisted by Page.
Johnathan Rondinelli (Windsor; Riverside) was solid in goal earning the clean sheet stopping all 9 shots he faced.
Redeemers record fell to 1-4 on the season with the loss.
On Saturday afternoon, St. Clair defeated the Mohawk Mountaineers by a score of 5-1. Unlike the night before, the Saints had a great first half leading 4-0 going into the break. Zivcic put St. Clair up 1-0 in the 2nd minute of play. Moussa Nizam made it 2-0 in the 27th minute. Moussa scored his second of the game shortly after in the 32nd minute assisted by Zivcic. Page scored in the 37th minute also assisted by Zivic.
Nizam got the hat trick notching his third goal in the 49th minute of play.
Rondinelli was good in goal once again earning the win giving up one goal at the end of game in injury time.
Mohawk’s record dropped to 2-2-1 on the season after the defeat.
St. Clair is currently ranked 6th in the OCAA. Defenders Austin Severino (Kingsville; Kingsville District), Ilija Pavicic (Belle River; St. Anne’s) and Ezra Fogal (Windsor; St. Joseph’s) all had outstanding weekends for St. Clair even though they never got on the scoresheet.
The Saints are next in action on Saturday, September 30 when they host the Niagara Knights at 4 pm at Acumen Stadium at the Sportsplex.
St. Clair Women’s Soccer Take First Loss of Season
The St. Clair College women’s soccer team had a tough weekend as they travelled to the Hamilton area for two matches on the road against a couple of top ranked opponents.
On Friday night, the Saints were in Ancaster to take on the Redeemer Royals and came away with a solid 2-2 tie. The Royals are ranked 3rd in Ontario and 13th in Canada.
St. Clair fell behind 1-0 in the 33rd minute but Alessia Olivito (Windsor; Holy Names) tied it up at the beginning of the second half in the 49th minute. Redeemer went up 2-1 in the 66th minute but the Saints bounced back again to even the match on a goal by Brianne Kingsley-Clough (Georgetown; Christ the King) in the 78th minute.
Redeemer’s record moved to 2 wins and 3 draws on the season with the tie.
On Saturday afternoon, the young Saints squad suffered their first loss of the season falling to the Mohawk Mountaineers by a score of 3-0.
The match was fairly evenly played but Mohawk capitalized on their scoring chances while the Saints did not. Shots attempts were in favour for the Mountaineers 13-9.
Mohawk’s record improved to 4-1 on the season with the win. The Mountaineers are ranked 6th in Ontario.
St. Clair is currently ranked 7th in the OCAA with a record of 2 wins, 1 loss and a tie. Strikers Jessica Doll (LaSalle; Villanova) and Victoria Walsh (Georgetown; Christ the King) played well on the weekend but just couldn’t find the back of the net on several chances.
The Saints are next in action on Saturday, September 30 when they host the Niagara Knights at 2 pm at Acumen Stadium at the Sportsplex.
