St. Clair College Women’s Softball Open Season with a Pair of Wins
The St. Clair College Women’s Softball team opened their 2023 OCAA season with a pair of mercy shortened wins at their SportsPark diamond Saturday afternoon. The Saints rolled to a decisive 16-0 victory over Lambton College (Sarnia) in three innings followed by a 10-0 verdict over Conestoga College (Kitchener) in six innings.
In the opener St. Clair managed 14 hits in just under an hour of play with centerfielder Sierra Baltzer (LaSalle, ON/Sandwich) leading the charge with three hits including a pair of triples that drove in three runs and scored each time. Shortstop Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) also had three hits including two doubles that drove in a pair of runs and scored three times. Bryanna Kressler (Kitchener, ON) joined the club with three hits including a double, three RBI’s and two runs scored. Rookie Alivia Peterson (Windsor, ON/St. Anne) cleared the left field fence for a 2-run homer as part of her two-hit performance introducing herself to the Saints faithful. Mckenna Copley (Dover Centre) took the pitching win and with Amy Claydon (Cambridge, ON) sharing the duty in the final inning with neither surrendering a hit.
The Saints continued to get on base in the Conestoga win with 13 hits led by Claydon and Judy Lafleur (Essex, ON/Essex) who had three apiece to go with a pair of RBI’s each. Copley collected another pitching win in four innings of work and gave up just two hits while striking out five batters. Kressler also had five strikeouts in the final two innings to shut the door.
St. Clair boarded the bus for Toronto following the doubleheader for two games on Sunday at Connorvale Park in Etobicoke against round robin host Humber College and Sheridan College (Brampton).
St. Clair Men’s Baseball Win at Humber Before Stoppage
The St. Clair College Men’s Baseball team won 6-3 over Humber College (Etobicoke) to open a scheduled doubleheader Saturday afternoon before game two was halted due to an injury to the plate umpire.
The Saints jumped ahead 4-0 in the second inning before letting Humber make it interesting at 4-3 in the fourth inning. St. Clair freshman relief pitcher Tyler Brown-Amlin (Windsor, ON/Sandwich) was then called upon and responded with a clean sheet allowing just two hits while striking out three down the stretch in four innings pitched to claim the win. St. Clair added two runs in the sixth inning to complete the scoring. Catcher Henry Real (Panama City, Panama) supplied much of the offense with three hits for St. Clair to go with two rbi’s. Josh Anderson (Ajax, ON) and Carter Reh each stroked a double for the Saints adding to the offensive support.
In game two St. Clair was trailing 2-1 in the fourth inning before a foul ball sidelined the plate umpire which suspended the contest. He was tended to by the attending athletic therapists and is expected to make a full recovery. The continuation of the game will be decided between the schools based on available space on their schedules later in the season.
The Saints continue their GTA road trip with a doubleheader against Seneca College (North York) and the Audley Recreation Centre in Ajax starting at 12pm.
