St. Clair Women’s Softball Trounce Mohawk in Hamilton

The St. Clair College Women’s Softball team moved their record to 12-7 (OCAA 3rd Place) with a pair of lopsided wins Wednesday night at Hamilton’s Mohawk Sports Park over Mohawk College. The Saints pounded the Mountaineers pitching for 40 total hits in 18-0 and 16-4 victories.

St. Clair needed only three innings in game one to secure the mercy shortened contest. The Saints scored five runs in the opening frame followed by an 11-run outburst in the 2nd and capped it with two runs in the 3rd to put the game away. St. Clair’s Judy Lafleur (Essex, ON/Essex) was 4-for-4 with two RBI and four runs scored while Reese Grondin (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) had two hits including a 3-run homer as part of her 4-RBI game. Saints’ starting pitcher Kirsten Kipfer (Mitchell, ON) got the win in short work striking out two batters and had two hits including a double at the plate.

It was more of the same in game two as the St. Clair scored 5 runs in the 1st and 3rd innings bookending a 6-run 2nd. Mohawk managed to stave off the mercy until the 5th inning with two runs in the 1st and singles in the 2nd and 4th. Kipfer had a solo homerun for the Saints as Kamryn Coombs (Atwood, ON) was 4-for-4 including a triple finishing with two RBI. Lafleur had two more hits with a triple and four RBI while Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) and Ashton Fong (Colwood, BC) each had three singles for St. Clair. Danna Juarez (Airdrie, AB) got her 5th win of the season pitching four innings.

The Saints go on the road Sunday for a doubleheader in London against Fanshawe College with game times of 12:00pm and 2:00pm.
