The Lakeshore Canadiens have acquired forward Jarrett Tazzman, general manager Mark Seguin announced today.
The 17-year-old LaSalle resident had been playing for the Jr. B LaSalle Vipers, who were one player over the 23 man roster limit with the recent acquisition of forward Cale Allen.
In his rookie season of junior hockey, Tazzman had posted two goals and three points in 21 games, including the game-winner in the Vipers season opening 7-2 win over the Listowel Cyclones.
“We think the experience he had this season in junior B will help him, and he will provide some energy to our lineup,” Seguin says.
The 5’10”, 190 pound winger is a graduate of the Windsor Jr. Spitfires AAA program, posting 17 goals and 32 points in 34 games last season.
“He’s going to help us on the right side as a big strong, power forward who will go to the tough areas of the ice and get those garbage goals and collect some points that way,” Seguin says. “He’s going to play with some older guys and develop so we can get him back up to junior B.”
Tazzman had originally committed to playing for the Canadiens during the summer before making the Vipers with a strong showing at their training camp.
“We targeted him to be on our team at the beginning of the year, and we thought he was going to be here,” Seguin says. “It’s never fun to get sent down, but he understands the opportunity he’s going to get here, to get a ton of ice time, play really well and get back up there next year.”
Tazzman is expected to be in the lineup tonight, wearing jersey number 6, when the Canadiens travel to Wallaceburg to take on the Lakers.
He will make his home debut Friday night when the Canadiens host the Mooretown Flags.
Game time is 7:05 pm at the Atlas Tube Centre. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, and $3 for youth. Children five and under get in free.
