It may not be the medal they were looking for but Sainte-Foy (Sainte-Foy, QC) will play for Bronze after defeating Vancouver Island University (Nanaimo, BC) 61-54 Saturday afternoon at the CCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship hosted by St. Clair College.
VIU was a worthy opponent taking a first quarter lead of 12-11 but Sainte-Foy overtook them by halftime at 26-24. Sainte-Foy continued their run into the third quarter allowing VIU only eight points in the frame.
VIU made a nice comeback to within four points in the late stages but Sainte-Foy salted it away at the free throw line. Sainte-Foy out-rebounded VIU 47-29 in a key statistic for the game. Myriam Leclerc (St-Roch de Richeleau, QC) was named Player of the Game for Sainte-Foy after scoring 16 points with 4 rebounds and 3 assists.
Lanae Adams (Vancouver, BC) scored a game-high 18 points to go with 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the VIU Player of the Game Award.
