The LaSalle Vipers will be celebrating the joy of reading Wednesday, Jan. 27 when they host their first annual Link To Literacy Night sponsored WFCU Credit Union at the Vollmer Centre.

The Vipers are asking their fans to bring in books to donate to Link To Literacy, a local grassroots initiative started by Tamye Machina.

Game time is 7 pm against the St. Thomas Stars.

The books will be donated to local children in economically disadvantaged areas, who have challenging family situations with no access to buy books or transportation to a library.

WFCU Credit Union is the title sponsor of the game, keeping in line with their long-standing commitment of giving back to the Windsor and Essex County communities.

“Owning a book is such a great motivator for children to want to read, learn and achieve success in school and life,” Machina says.

Link To Literacy aims to accomplish this goal by using the donations to put books directly into the hands of children, rather than using them to restock library shelves.

Please ensure that books are in good condition, not written or coloured in, with no ripped pages. Link to Literacy is looking for books suitable for children from kindergarten to Grade 8.
